FOOTBRIDGE OCELÁŘSKÁ

The construction of a new cycle path along the Rokytka River in Prague 9 is part of a broader plan to create a green space and recreational area in the vicinity of the Rokytka River, spanning from Hořejší Pond to Freyová Street. For most of its length, the cycle path follows the former railway siding, providing a logical connection between the route from Libeň and Troja (extending from the already constructed section from Kolčavka to Freyova Street) and the direction of Kyje and Počernice. The total length of the proposed new route is approximately 3.50 km. The cycle path incorporates off-grade crossings at Ocelářská Street (via a new footbridge), Freyová Street (with a reconstruction of the railway bridge), U Elektry Street (utilizing a new footbridge), and Poděbradská Street (with a reconstruction of the railway bridge).

The primary constraint in designing the bridge structure was the presence of numerous utility lines within the area where Freyova and Ocelářská Streets intersect, making it nearly impossible to position the supports for the bridge structure.

The supporting structure of the footbridge is configured as a suspended steel structure, with a span of 2 x 52.0 m, featuring two parallel hangers from the central pylon in each span. In cross-section, the primary supporting element is a steel tube with a diameter of Ø1.22 m, complemented by ashlar cross members and a steel orthotropic bridge deck.

The footbridge was completed in October 2009, while the commissioning of the cycle path was delayed until February 2010 due to ongoing construction work in the adjacent residential area. The footbridge boasts an aesthetic yet straightforward design, requiring minimal maintenance and serving not only its transportation purpose but also as an intriguing landmark in the industrial part of Vysočany.
